New Zealand has recently made noteworthy adjustments to its visa regulations, with the aim of addressing a pressing worker shortage and enhancing the immigration process. These improvements are anticipated to facilitate greater access to employment opportunities for professionals from India and various other nations.
Reduction in Work Experience Requirements
In the past, applicants had to have three years or more of work experience in order to be hired in New Zealand. More skilled people can now be eligible for employment opportunities because this requirement has been lowered to two years. New provisions have also been introduced for seasonal workers. Seasonal workers with more experience can now apply for a three-year multi-entry visa, while those with less experience can get a seven-month single-entry visa.
Extension of Work Visa Duration
The maximum visa duration for occupations falling under skill levels 4 or 5 of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) has been increased from two to three years. It is anticipated that this change will give employees in these categories more job stability.
Changes to Salary Requirements
The new rules have also eliminated the average salary requirement for certain visa categories, including the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) and Specific Purpose Work Visa (SPWV). Companies are now able to offer wages that are in line with market rates for the particular positions and regions.
However, there are still income requirements for those who want to bring their families to New Zealand. To sponsor their children, visa holders must make at least 55,844 New Zealand dollars (roughly ₹27 lakh) per year. Recognized employers are no longer required to complete New Zealand’s online training module under the updated rules, further streamlining the hiring process for international workers.
These policy updates reflect New Zealand’s proactive approach to tackling labor shortages and boosting its economy. It is expected that the changes will help thousands of Indian professionals and workers who are keen to join the workforce in New Zealand.
Indians intending to work or settle in New Zealand should ensure they are aware of these new regulations before making travel plans.
