Indian Railways is set to enhance connectivity in Uttar Pradesh with a new Vande Bharat Express service, extending the existing Meerut-Lucknow route to reach the sacred city of Varanasi. This strategic expansion aims to provide seamless travel for residents of Western Uttar Pradesh to one of India’s most significant spiritual destinations.
The carefully planned route will connect major urban centers through six key stops: Hapur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh. This comprehensive coverage ensures that the service benefits not just the terminal cities but also numerous districts along the corridor.
The expansion marks another milestone in India’s rapidly growing Vande Bharat network, which now boasts over 55 trains operating nationwide, excluding the northeastern states. The success of these semi-high-speed trains is evident in their high occupancy rates, with several cities now featuring dual daily services to accommodate growing passenger demand.
Varanasi’s inclusion in this new route carries particular significance, as the city launched India’s first Vande Bharat train. The extension will provide Western UP residents with direct access to this historical and spiritual hub, known for its ancient temples and cultural heritage.
While the Railways Ministry finalizes the exact timings and operational details, the announcement has already generated considerable interest among potential travelers. The schedule, expected to be released soon, will enable passengers to plan their journeys effectively.
This development represents another step in Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to modernize rail travel and improve regional connectivity, making inter-city travel more efficient and comfortable for passengers.
