The beautiful valley of Jammu and Kashmir adorns itself with different charms every season. As the snow season recedes, it is replaced by beautiful cherry blossoms in the valley and the tulip garden which opens for a couple of days every year.
Spread over 74 acres, the garden will be the newest attraction of visitors, boosting tourism and employment in the Union territory. The Floriculture department is behind the care of the garden and preparing it for the grand opening. It will house 17 lakh tulip bulbs and be the largest such garden in Asia. This year the union territory has added two new tulip varieties and it can be visited between late March to mid-April, when the tulips are in full bloom.
Tourism in the valley has been increasing with 3.7 lakh tourists in 2023 and 4.65 lakh in 2024. The garden is located between the Zabarwan mountain ranges on one side and the dal lake on the other and its beauty has been recognized by the World book of records (London).
The garden was inaugurated under Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi in 2007 and ever since then, it has been a major tourist destination for travellers. Tulips generally are native to Central Asia and East Europe, but Kasmir holds a significant place featuring one of the most beautiful varieties of tulips in the world.
