After completing his journey to the International Space Station, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is back in India, and met the Prime Minister as soon as he landed in Delhi. At the meeting, the astronaut who had just become the first Indian to achieve this historic feat shared his experience with the PM. The Axiom-4 mission, which Shukla participated in, lasted from 25th June to 15th July. He visited the official residence of the Prime Minister on Lok Kalyan Marg, where the PM greeted him as he wore his ISRO jacket with pride.
Shukla has gifted the Axiom-4 mission patch to the Prime Minister and also shared the pictures taken from the ISS. The Prime Minister has shared their interaction on their X handle and congratulated Group Captain Shukla for his success. Shukla was the pilot of the Axiom-4 mission, which consisted of three other crew members, including the mission head Peggy Whitson from the US, Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from Poland, and Tibor Kapu from Hungary. On Sunday, he came back to India from the US. A Lok Sabha discussion to mark Shubhanshu Shukla’s success was also proposed by the government.
The opposition leaders were not a part of the special discussion, but the Congress leader, Shashi Tharoor, was among the MPs who lauded the success of Shubhanshu Shukla and told him how the entire nation was proud of his mission. The astronaut became the first Indian to go to the International Space Station, and this is an important feat as India plans to launch its space station and a human mission before 2047, the year that will mark 100 years of our independence. Praising Shubhanshu Shukla, Mr. Tharoor also shared that his achievement will inspire the new generation to pursue careers in science and space technology.
The Mayor of Lucknow, Sushma Kharakwal, has proposed to name the road leading to his house and a park in the city after his name to commemorate his flight. She affirmed that he has made the city and the country proud, and everyone in the world knows the name of Lucknow because he belongs to the place.
