The appointments committee of the cabinet approved the appointment of Nidhi Tweari, the 2014-batch IFS officer as the new private secretary to the Prime Minister. The order was confirmed by the Ministry of Personnel. She is currently serving as the deputy secretary to the Prime Minister’s office.
Tewari joined the PMO in 2022 serving as under secretary handling portfolios regarding security and foreign affairs after being appointed as the deputy secretary before her latest promotion. She hails from Varanasi and secured 93rd rank in the Civil service examination in 2013 before which she also worked as the Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi.
Before her association with the PMO, she was working with the Ministry of External Affairs as part of the Disarmament and External Security Affairs division. This experience helped her in her association with the “foreign and security” vertical under the leadership of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
She had an active and impactful career contributing to the Atomic energy sector, and external affairs, and playing a key role in the G20 meeting held in New Delhi, in 2023. Her appointment was shared by PTI on X.
