The USA’s longest government shutdown came to an end as the House of Representatives passed the bill on Wednesday, ending the shutdown. The bill has been sent for signature to the President and will end the 43-day-long funding lapse.
The lapses created several bottlenecks, with workers left with no work, people waiting for passports and several citizens with no money. As per the report of the AP, the republicans carried the bill by a small majority of 222-209, as the lawmakers returned after a gap of eight weeks. The Senate, on the other hand, had already passed the bill.
As the bill ended the shutdown, it was welcomed by a round of applause in the House of Representatives. By the end of the voting, six Democrats supported the Republican led measure against the Democrats, while only two Republicans voted against it. The Democrats included Adam Grey, Jared Golden, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Henry Cuellar, Don Davis, and Tom Suozzi. The Republicans included Greg Steube and Thomas Messie.
The White House further confirmed that President Trump will sign the bill from the Oval Office on Thursday morning, which will officially reopen the Federal government of the world’s largest economy. The signing has been added to the official schedule of the President. Trump also planned an official dinner at 7:35 pm ET, but the event will be closed to the media.
It has also been confirmed that cameras will be allowed during the official signing process in the Oval Office for the record. The White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that the media can see the president while he signs the bill later in the evening. The President’s signature will officially mark the end of the largest government shutdown in the US.
