The President of the United States is known to make the world agree on anything he likes. A similar thing happened when he claimed to have won against what he had earlier called the “hoax” of climate change, after billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates remarked that global warming would not end civilisation.
Trump took to the Truth social platform to declare that he has won the war against the climate change hoax, post Bill Gates admitted that he was wrong on the issue. He further wrote that this step took a lot of courage, but he was glad to have achieved the feat.
In a major ideology shift, the 70-year-old billionaire and the founder of Microsoft remarked that climate change will not end humanity. In a long memo shared by Gates, he claimed that though the warming and environmental changes will have an undeniable impact on humanity, it will not lead to its destruction. The memo further read that in most places, people will continue to live peacefully.
Gates also argued that the focus should be on fighting poverty and preparing the world for the future. Bill also acknowledged that his memo might get criticism, and suggested that the current emission trends are reducing, and according to him, future technologies will further bend the emissions to manageable levels.
This argument gave a chance to Mr Trump, who has been a big climate sceptic, to further lash out at global warming and environmental degradation. Earlier, Trump referred to climate change as the “greatest con job ever” during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
The Republicans have been taking steps to cut on climate budgets and promote big oil companies ever since they came back for the latest term this year. Trump’s statements are not a shock for people aware of his leanings, but definitely a slap on the ongoing climate mitigation processes and the latest research, which point to an undeniably high rate of emissions despite technological progress and efforts.
