Police reported that violence erupted in several districts of Kerala, especially in the northern districts. Violence erupted in Eramala after several CPI leaders attacked the Indira Gandhi Bhavan, a Congress office, in the district. Police confirmed that the district witnessed violence throughout the night after the civic poll results were announced.
The authorities reported a loss of five lakh, as over 200 people marched towards the Congress office with sharp weapons, and tried to vandalise the building, an FIR registered at the Educhery police station confirmed. A statue of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has also been destroyed in the attacks, where the UDF activists later joined. An officer confirmed that violence was soon reduced by timely intervention.
In another incident held reportedly at Marad, police confirmed that stones were pelted at a victory procession of the UDF, where several people were injured. Over 40 CPI workers in Sultan Bathery in Wayanad attacked the vehicle of a UDF worker and his family. In another incident at Sultan Bathery, the police filed a complaint against UDF activists for attacking CPI workers.
Clashes between UDF and LDF workers also took place at Ulikkal in Kannur district; the police officials reported that the Violence was stopped after the intervention of the personnel. In Thiruvananthapuram’s Neyyatinkara, clashes between BJP and CPI workers took place. Several other instances have been revealed from different places.
The classes reveal tensions among the activists, after the poll concluded on Saturday, 13 December. The police officials confirmed that at several places FIRs have been registered, but at several places an official complaint has not been lodged. The situation has, however, been taken under control.
