The vice-presidential candidate of the ruling party, C.P. Radhakrishnan has filed his nomination for the post on Wednesday, with the Prime Minister being present during the process. The leaders present at the moment were Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, along with other leaders. P.C. Moody, the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, is the Returning Officer of the Vice-Presidential elections, and the Prime Minister handed four sets of the nomination papers to him after it was signed.
PM Modi, Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and the JD(U) leader Sajiv Ranjan Singh are the lead proposers in the four sets of nominations handed over to the General Secretary. Each set also contained other proposers and seconders, who are 20 in number. After the papers were examined by the Returning Officer, Radhakrishnan signed the register, as the acknowledgement slip was later given to the Prime Minister. The decision to nominate CP Radhakrishnana as the Vice-presidential candidate after the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar was taken at the official residence of Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, and all the floor leaders present at the meeting unanimously accepted his nomination.
Senior leader and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi stated that the decision to nominate Radhakrishnan was unanimous. Before the nomination was signed, the Vice-presidential candidate was congratulated by PM Nodi and other NDA leaders on Tuesday. It is being reported that the unanimous support signifies the collective support of the leaders. PM Modi also posts on his X handle about the leader talking about his humility and dedication towards the nation. He also emphasised his role in doing great work in Tamil Nadu. Radhakrishnan is a senior BJP leader and the present governor of Maharashtra, with an experienced administrative and political career.
He is known for his commitment to social upliftment and has also served as a Member of Parliament from Tamil Nadu.
