The “vote chori” allegations by the opposition has taken a turn as BJP launched its own campaign and pointed out that Sonia Gandhi was briefly included in India’s voter list as a voter even before she was an Indian citizen. As per NDTV’s report, Anurag Thakur has stated that the congress leader born as Sonia Maino in 1946 in Italy was added as a voter between 1980 to 1982, which was a year before she was given the Citizenship of the country.
The allegations have been made as a counterattack to the Congress’s claims of the BJP stealing votes, and the Election Commission being a part of the fraud. Amit Malviya, the IT cell chief of the BJP, was also among the first people to share about Sonia Gandhi’s voting identity on his X handle. He shared a photo of the electoral roll, asking the question of electoral malpractice to the Congress, and blaming the party for being involved in such acts, while blaming the BJP for the same.
In response to these allegations, Congress leader Tariq Anwar has reportedly remarked that it was not Sonia Gandhi who had asked her name to be included in the electoral roll, but it was the fault of the then ECI officers who had done it. The photo is of the time when the Gandhi family lived in the official residence of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The present debate seems to have entered a historic debate, as the BJP has also claimed that the Congress used electoral fraud to defeat the Father of the Indian Constitution, BR Ambedkar, in 1952, over the issue of electoral fraud.
Anurag Thakur said that the Congress has been doing election fraud ever since the first elections, from 1952 onwards. Along with the CPI, Mr. Thakur alleged that the Congress defeated BR Ambedkar using election fraud. The statements were made during a conference held at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi. He also said that the leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi, and his family have had a history of blaming the Election Commission every time they lost in the elections.
