PM Modi started a political fire by accusing Congress and India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of accusing Assam and India during the 1962 Chinese war. While speaking in Assam’s Darrang district, he said that Assam has still not healed from the wounds of the war. He also blamed Congress for Assam’s situation and said that while Congress, which ruled the state for several decades, built just three bridges over the river Brahmaputra, the BJP has built six bridges in just 10 years.
PM Modi also alleged that the Congress party protected anti-national forces instead of soldiers, and also the terrorists groomed by Pakistani militants. Mr Modi led the foundation of several new projects in Darrang, along with the inauguration of many. During his speech, he also said that he was visiting the land of Maa Kamakhya after Operation Sindoor for the first time and was feeling the sacredness of the temple.
One of the most important projects inaugurated by PM Modi was the Guwahati Ring Road Project, to ease congestion and traffic in the capital city. A bridge over the Brahmaputra River, the Kuruwa-Narengi bridge is also being constructed to improve the social and economic landscape of the region. The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, present at the event, presented a memento to PM Modi, marking the Krishak Swahid Diwas, which commemorated the 1894 Darrang massacre.
After he visited the North Eastern state of Manipur, which had succumbed to violence for the past two years, the Prime Minister visited Assam and paid tribute to the legendary singer and Bharat Ratna, Bhupen Hazarika.
