The leader of JD(U), Nitish Kumar, was elected leader of the legislative assembly of the NDA Alliance during a meeting of party MLAs in Patna. The decision came moments before the meeting to elect Kumar as the State’s leader, possibly.
BJP, on the other hand, has named Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha as the party’s leader and deputy leader for the state, respectively. Kumar will take the oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister for the 10th time in the Gandhi Maidan on 20th November, Thursday. Party leaders informed the PTI that the leader had asked the governor, Arif Mohammad Khan, earlier to initiate the process of forming of government.
The discussions on Tuesday were held for a long time in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and the party president of the BJP, JP Nadda, who held talks with the president of JD(U), Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh, who are the regional representatives of the government in the Modi cabinet. It is expected that with the addition of the BJP(RV) and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, the new government will be a little different from the old one.
Kumar has already resigned from the post of Chief Minister, and the current government is expected to dissolve on Wednesday. He has also submitted letters of support from all NDA members. The NDA government has won a massive victory in Bihar, after winning 202 out of the 243 seats in the assembly. Individually, the BJP won 89 seats, JD(U) got 85 seats, and the Lok Jan Shakti Party(Ram Vilas) bagged 19 seats, while the Hindustan Awam Morcha and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha received 5 and 4 seats respectively.
The major opposition parties were the RJD and Congress. Where the RJD won 25 seats, and the Congress got 6 seats. The results show that for the first time, BJP and JD(U) have almost equal strength, since for the past few years, JD(U) was the leading party in the state. However, what still remains is the popularity of the JD(U) supremo, Nitish Kumar, who has been leading the state, which is today known for the highest number of female voters, which has played a huge role in the victory of the NDA.
