The shocking death of IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar has created waves. In the backdrop of the case, the Chairperson of the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi, on Friday wrote to Amneet Kumar, the wife of Puran Kumar.
The Senior Officer belonging to the Haryana cadre mentioned the names of 16 officers in his suicide note and called them directly responsible for his suicide. Sonia Gandhi brought light to the fact that even the highest officials in the government services are not immune to biases and face issues related to social justice.
The ex-congress president expresses her condolences to the late officer’s family and also highlights the biases in social justice that exist even in the highest spheres. Puran Kumar, who held the position of ADGP, had shot himself, according to reports, while he was at his official residence.
Changigarh police responded immediately and cordoned off the place as soon as the news reached them. The weapon used in the event has also been recovered, and the forensics team is examining the same. The Haryana government has also replaced the Rohtak SP Narendra Bijraniya with Surinder Singh Bhoria, as the former is one of the main accused in the abetment to suicide case, as per Kumar’s letter.
The DGP of the state, Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, is also expected to be sent on a long leave as the government has decided to appoint an “officiating DGP”. Two days after Kumar’s death, the Chandigarh police at Sector 11 registered an FIR based on the 8-page suicide note written by Kumar.
The administration is doing a major position reshuffle after raging demands from officials in the service and the people who have been demanding accountability and transparency. Kumar’s wife has demanded the arrest of all the officers mentioned in the suicide note.
