The Ministry of External Affairs of India has slammed the Pakistani General Asim Muneer’s remarks made in the USA, where the latter was heard saying that Pakistan is an “irresponsible state with nuclear weapons” and that “nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan’s stock in trade.” Randhir Jaiswal, via a post on X, said that no matter how the world interprets the statement made by Pakistan’s army chief, India’s stance is clear, and it will not stand any sort of nuclear blackmail. He also reiterated that India is taking all necessary measures to ensure national security.
He further stated that the fact that these statements were made in a country considered India’s friend is even more regrettable. Reporting the incident, PTI noted that the statement is concerning, and the international community must be cautious of how dangerous nuclear arms are in a state controlled by the military. The Indian authorities have used this episode to highlight the flawed democracy and Pakistan’s failure in tackling terrorism. Muneer was speaking at a conference in Tampa, Florida, where he said that any Indian infrastructure that hampers the flow of water from the Indus and its tributaries will be destroyed by Pakistan.
The statements made by the Pakistani General are extremely atrocious, and he explicitly threatened to bring down dams and infrastructure with missiles, and went on to say that since Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country, if it goes down, it will take at least half the world down with it. The opposition leaders, including Congress representative Jairam Ramesh, also condemned the remarks made by Asim. He stated that it was strange that the American government had allowed him to make such statements against India.
Jairam Ramesh has also said that Asim Munir made communal remarks a few days before the Pahalgam attack that triggered the attacks. Munir was a part of the celebrations in Tampa to give farewell to the Chief of US Central Command, Gen. Michael Kurilla, the same person who has praised Pakistan as a potential leader fighting against terrorism. As part of the same event, he addressed a gathering of the Pakistani diaspora in the US and made these remarks that have created a fury of criticism across the nation.
