The Ministry of External Affairs announced on Saturday that India and Japan have signed 21 pacts during PM Modi’s two-day visit. Randhir Jaiswal, who is the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, informed that seven Memorandum of Understanding, six agreements, and eight new announcements were made during the visit. Mr. Modi also travelled from Toko to Sendai on a bullet train with his counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba. Addressing the India-Japan Economic Forum on Friday, PM Modi also focused on strengthening collaborations in areas of manufacturing, technology and innovation, green energy, and skill development.
One of the major achievements of the agreements was the 10 JPY trillion investment by Japan in India for a decade, boosting India’s manufacturing industry. Reiterating Ishiba’s remarks on a sustainable long-term partnership between India and Japan, Mr. Modi highlights the excellence and potential of both countries. He also met with the former Prime Ministers of Japan, Yoshihide Suga and Fumio Kishida. After completing his visit to a Southeast Asian country, he is now headed to China for the SCO summit, where he is expected to meet the Chinese and Russian leaders on the sidelines of the event. The 25th edition of the SCO meeting is scheduled to be held in Tianjin and will continue for two days.
The leaders are expected to discuss issues of regional security, sustainable development, connectivity, and global cooperation during their meeting. This year marks 25 years of the Organisation. In this backdrop, the leaders will also review the organisation’s achievements and adopt the future strategy in the form of a ten-year development strategy. China will host the summit for the 5th time, and its President Xi Jinping will chair the meetings.
