After the official residence of the President of Russia was attacked, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, expressed “deep concern”, urging Russia and Ukraine to engage in diplomatic talks and avoid conflict. He took to social media to express his concern and urged both sides to end hostilities.
On Monday, Russia claimed that 91 long-range drones from Ukraine tried to attack President Putin’s residence in the Novgorod region, North of Moscow. Ukraine has, however, denied the attack continuously. The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talking to reporters, said that the attack was another round of lies by Russia, and a false allegation to deliberately ruin the peace talks between Ukraine and the US.
He also stated that by making such claims, Moscow was laying the groundwork to attack the official government building of Ukraine in Kyiv. He also requested the President of the US to respond to this, as he called it a threat by Russia.
The Kremlin has also issued a statement, and according to Uri Ushakov, the foreign policy Advisor of Russia, Putin has informed Trump about the attack via phone call. It is also confirmed that the President of Russia has stated the incident as an attack on the President’s residence and also told to review its stance over the ongoing peace talks.
Russian authorities confirmed that 91 drones have been spotted, while Ukraine continued to call it an attempt to ruin the peace talks. This has worsened the truce between the two countries, which have been fighting for almost four years now. The international community, including the Prime Ministers of countries like India, has been negotiating for a peace between Russia and Ukraine, but the latest attack has seemingly complicated the situation.
Its effect on the peace talks is yet not clear, but Russia’s statement pointed out a complicated next few days in terms of truce efforts.
