A delegation from Israel and Hamas has started talks with the United States in Egypt. The talks starting on 6th October aim to bring the two-year-long war to an end. As per the reports by an Egyptian news channel, Al-Qahera, the first round of talks has already been completed on a positive note and is set to resume on 7th October, the day the war began in 2023.
Al-Qahera earlier states that the grounds of the release of prisoners and detainees are being discussed behind closed doors, and the right to security in Egypt. The mediation led by Qatar and Egypt is ensuring a peaceful consensus to release the Israeli hostages with Hamas and the Palestinians in Israel’s prisons.
Donald Trump, who has been credited with the peace deal, informed the White House that he was positive about the peace deal. He emphasised that Hamas was agreeing to several clauses that would make the deal a reality. A Palestinian source, closely related to Hamas, suggests that the negotiations, which began on the second anniversary of the Hamas-Israel war, will last for several days before anything conclusive can be said.
The Palestinian source also informed the AFP that the talks may last for a long time due to the complex nature of the crisis and the intentions to continue the operations. On Monday, as the Israeli strikes continued, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner were in Egypt, a they reaffirmed the end of the war as soon as possible.
The continued Israeli operation has killed seven Palestinians in the latest attack, and footage shows fumes of fire in the Gaza Strip, despite the Trump administration, including Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, asking Israel to stop the bombing. The complexities in the peace talks are already visible, but time will tell how the two-year-long war is brought to a peaceful end.
