As the United States attacked Venezuela and captured its leader, the Ministry of External Affairs issued an advisory asking its citizens to avoid travelling to the South American nation. The US forces have launched an attack on Caracas, as the government accused Maduro, the Venezuelan President, of narco-terrorism.
The Indian embassy in Caracas also shared contact lists and asked the Indian citizens in Venezuela to remain cautious and restrict their movements due to the sensitive environment in the country. On Sunday, New Delhi also declared that the situation was of “deep concern”.
In a statement, the country stated that the US takeover of Venezuela, followed by the capture of President Maduro, was concerning, and all the parties involved should resort to peaceful measures to solve the issue. In the first formal reaction to the issue, which has already been flagged by Latin American countries, the Indian External Ministry reiterated concern for the safety of the citizens of Venezuela.
After taking the President of Venezuela and his wife into custody, the US President announced that the South American country will be run by the US until another stable government is elected. The statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs maintains a neutral tone, and the aggression by a third party has been avoided, as the statement clearly states that the “developments” in Venezuela as concerning.
India has shown support to the people of Venezuela, and the embassy of India in Caracas has also confirmed that it is in constant touch with the Indian citizens in the country. As per records, there are 50 non-resident Indians and 30 people of Indian origin in Venezuela.
