In the wee hours of 7th May, India launched a military strike on over 9 targets in Pakistan. Ever since the Pahalgam attack was committed by terrorists allegedly belonging to Pakistani outfits, India has promised to bring down the perpetrators. The Prime Ministers and other ministers have been clear on the stance, while the International leaders, including the Foreign Secretary of the US, and the officials in Russia have recognised India’s right to protect its national security.
Pakistan claims that it has shot down five of India’s jets, and it is clear that the two nations are on the brink of a bigger conflict. Indian missiles targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, as stated in the Press release by the Ministry of Defence. The act has not been taken calmly by Pakistan, and the Prime Minister has called it an “act of war”, and also released a notice where it reserves to retaliate. It also claims that 26 people were killed and 46 were wounded.
After the targets Pakistani army has started firing on the LOC. The press release of the Ministry of Defence has stated that the Indian army has launched “OPERATION SINDOOR” to hit the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It emphasised that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature,” and mentions the reason for the same. Which were the brutal killings in Pahalgam, India, have, with proof, said that the terrorists were linked to Pakistan, and therefore the strikes were conducted.
The targets, according to the Indian ministry, belonged to LeT and Jaish-e-Muhammad, which were also behind the killings of 40 military soldiers in Pulwama in 2019. In the briefing that took place after the strike, the Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri, reported that the strike was focused on destroying the infrastructure of those terror outfits who are suspected to be involved in the attacks.
Colonel Sofiya Quereshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh joined him in giving the details of the attack, which was coordinated by India’s tri-forces. The nine sites that were targeted include four in Pakistan, which are Bahawalpur, Muridke, Shakar Garh and a village near Sialkot. While the other five sites were in the POK. After the strike, alerts have been issued at many sites in India as Pakistan started firing at the border.
