After what looked like a threat to the lady IPS officer in Maharashtra, the Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar says that he respects cops and had no intention to interfere in the matter. The opposition had also slammed Pawar after the video of the minister talking to IPS Anjana Krishna over the cellphone went viral. Later, the Solapur rural police had also registered a case against four people from Kurdu village.
The individuals have been charged with using force against public servants and preventing them from performing their duties. Despite how the conversation sounded, Ajit Pawar claimed that he only wanted to avoid any on-ground escalation and a peaceful resolution of the matter. Clarifying his instance, he posted on his social media handle saying that he respects women cops.
Opposition leaders have criticised Pawar and alleged that went Krishna, the sub-divisional police officer of Karmala division of Solapur, went to the Kurdi village to stop the illegal mineral mining going on in the area, the NCP leaders asked her to talk to Ajit Pawar. After the officer asked Mr Pawar to make a call on her cellphone for authentication, he started threatening her for taking action. Official reports say that SDPO Krishna, along with other officers, went to Kurdu village to take action against illegal sand mining on 31st August, when the officers were gathered by several men, including the four people against whom the FIR was filed.
The men included Nitin Mali, Baba Jagtap, Santosh Kapare, and Anna Dhane. The opposition has, however, demanded that Mr Pawar should be named in the FIR as it was just a cover-up to save him from public scrutiny, as it was Pawar whose name was used by the men to threaten the officers on duty. The general secretary of NCP (SP), speaking about the matter, said that everyone who knows Ajit Pawar knows his working style, and his loud tone is familiar to everybody working with him.
He further said that the officer was also not at fault, but the people are trying to twist the conversation. Amidst all the chaos, MLC Anmol Mitkari from the NCP has asked UPSC to give details about Krishna’s selection. It has also met with criticism, after which Mitkari has apologised on X and taken down the request.
