The Prime Minister kick-started the Bihar election campaign on Friday and confidently stated that the NDA government will return to the state with Nitish Kumar as the Chief Minister. The Prime Minister started the campaign from the Samastipur district of Bihar, where he said that the NDA government will not just win but also break the previous records in the upcoming elections.
Previously, in the 2010 elections, the NDA performed its best when it won 206 seats, with Nitish Kumar’s Janta Dal bagging 115 seats. BJP secured 91 of the 243 seats. PM Modi also targeted the RJD over “jungle raj” and asked the people to vote for progress and a good governance system.
He targeted the RJD leaders, saying that they were out on bail, alleging that they were trying to steal the ‘Jannayak’ title of former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur. He further told the crowd that the RJD and Congress leaders had created problems during Kumar’s government, but under his leadership, the state was successfully put on the right track. Talking about the state of affairs, he said that the state is moving in the right direction and the NDA government will not let it go back to the ‘lantern age’.
Talking about the Congress claims over constitutional changes, he emphasised the constitutional status of the backward commission given under the NDA government and the increase of the SC/ST quota under the NDA’s rule. He also highlighted the increased budget allocation to the state compared to the Congress government.
Talking to the BJP workers, he asked them to support the NDA candidates in their constituency and also asked them to work towards making them victorious. He also talked about the NDA’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, which has given 10,000 each to over 1.2 crore women. Praising the scheme, the Prime Minister emphasised more focus on women’s empowerment after the NDA government was reelected in the state.
The Prime Minister also touched upon the issue of Maoist activities in the state and reassured the people that the government has planned to eradicate Maoist insurgency from the entire country. He also paid floral tribute to the former Chief Minister, Karpoori Thakur, in his native village.
