Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has raised concerns over what he called an “unusual spike” in voter roll changes in the New Delhi Assembly constituency ahead of the 2025 elections. Kejriwal alleged foul play and demanded immediate action to ensure transparency in the electoral process.
In a letter to the District Electoral Officer (DEO) dated December 28, Kejriwal highlighted a significant increase in voter addition and deletion applications even after the completion of the Special Summary Revision exercise. He termed this as a “sinister plan” to manipulate the electoral rolls.
“It is worrying that these applications are being processed after the Special Summary Revision has ended. This raises serious doubts about the fairness of the upcoming elections,” Kejriwal wrote.
Demand for Details
Kejriwal urged the DEO to release information about individuals who have submitted more than five voter deletion applications since October 29, 2024. He enclosed a list of such cases and questioned their intent.
“To ensure transparency, we request details of these individuals, including their EPIC numbers or copies of Form 7 filed by them,” he said in the letter. He further asked, “Who is behind these actions, and what is their objective?”
Call for Verification
The AAP leader demanded that no voter deletions be carried out unless they are cases of migration or death, verified thoroughly on the ground. He insisted that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and agents from all parties be involved in the verification process.
“To protect the integrity of the elections, I strongly recommend halting all deletions unless there is proof, like a death certificate, in case of death,” Kejriwal said.
Accusations Against BJP
At a press conference, Kejriwal accused the BJP of orchestrating what he called “Operation Lotus” in his constituency. He claimed the BJP had filed applications to remove 5,000 voters and add 7,500 new ones within 15 days.
“Why do we have to hold elections? When 12% of voters can cheat? This is a planned move to rig elections,” Kejriwal said. He also accused the BJP of using similar tactics to unfairly influence elections in other states such as Haryana and Maharashtra.
