In a remark on Sunday, Donald Trump said that “I am not joking” about the third term as president. He also said that if the 2020 elections were not rigged this would be his fourth term and that many people have asked him to think about running in the next term. President Trump assures that there has to be some way that this can be done.
As per the 22nd Amendment of 1951 added to the American constitution after the election of Fraklin D Roosevelt for four terms stated clearly that no person can run for the president’s position more than twice. How the president plans to do it despite it being a violation of the constitution is unclear, but what is clear is his desire to remain the head of the state, once previously seen in the 2020 elections when he tried to overturn the election results where he lotto Joe Biden.
Rep. Daniel Goldman, a New York Democrat said that this is another instance of Donald Trump’s effort to overtake the government and democracy. Jeremy Paul, a law professor at Boston University also said that there is no legally credible argument to run for a third term, but Trump who will be 82 by this term’s end has time and again emphasised his desire for power, indirectly and directly.
When asked if he would like to hold the position even further he is heard saying, “Well, I like working.”
