In a massive shooting at a church in Michigan this Sunday, four people were killed and several were injured. Shooters targeted the Mormon church, and the local media called it one of the most recent deadly attacks in the US.
The president called it a part of the “epidemic of violence”. The police said that the shooter rammed the church with his vehicle, which was open fire and later burnt down the entire building. The attacker was killed just eight minutes after the emergency call, as per the Grand Blanc Police Chief William Renye. He also informed that two casualties were initially confirmed, but as the authorities removed the debris, two more people were found dead. As search efforts are still ongoing.
He also informed that eight people were injured in the attack, and one of them was still critical. The shooter has been identified as Thomas Jacob Sanford. No more information about the shooter has been disclosed by the police, but as per media reports, he was a military veteran.
The images and video footage of the area are scary as the Jesus Christ Church and other buildings in the vicinity of Flint, burned to ashes. Images of the shooter’s truck were also released. Reuben Coleman, the special agent of the FBI, said in a press conference that the attack was investigated as a targeted crime. Renye has further stated that since the rescue team is still removing the burnt-down structures, the chances of more victims might increase. The church was filled with over 200 people when the attack took place.
Trump called this attack “horrendous” and also labelled it as an attack against Christians in the country. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whose leader passed away a day before the attack, called it “tragic”.
Violence and shootings have been previously witnessed in America, as the nation’s constitution permits guns for its citizens and facilitates the easy availability of firearms.
