Rahul Kanwal served as Aaj Tak and India Today’s news director for 22 years and has made important contributions to the news agency’s popularity. Other than holding the position of news director in the above-mentioned agencies Kanwal was the executive director of Business Today. He resigned recently and the news was made public on Thursday.
According to the filing made to the BSE, it is said that he resigned to pursue other paths in life. He has already given his resignation and will serve the company for the notice period before signing off. Kalli Purie, the vice chairman and editor-in-chief of TV Today Network informed that Kanwal would leave the news agency after an association of 22 years. “After more than 22 years with us, Rahul Kanwal will be moving on to explore new opportunities”.
In his resignation letter, he said that serving the India Today group has been the greatest honour of his life. He has been leading the group in some of the most important cases including political, economic, and world news, and mentored a lot of other journalists.
A lot of speculations are circulating in the media where few suggest that the Anchor may join NDTV, the news was revealed by Purie after Shiv Aroor who also worked with the India Today group joined NDTV. The sequence of these events has played together making people speculate the same for Kanwal. In his letter to Purie, Kanwal wrote, “Resigning with a heavy heart”, the letter further read, “It’s a testament to the vibrancy of this great institution that a curious young journalist like me found professional fulfilment and growth year after year.” He said that Aroon, Kalli’s father, was not like a boss but a mentor and guide, a second father to him. Ending the letter displaying his gratitude towards the news agency.
