The Guwahati bound train derailed in Cuttack, Odisha leaving 8 people injured, and one casualty. 11 coaches of the express train went off the track causing the tragedy. District magistrate Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde confirmed the number of people affected by the event that occurred near the Nergundi railway station in Cuttack.
The immediate rescue began after officials rushed to the location, and another train was arranged to ensure a safe journey for the people aboard the train. Due to this incident, three trains including the Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express were diverted.
The team sent by NDRF and Odisha police is also helping the railway staff in the efforts of restoration and rescue post the accidental event.
CPRO Mishra said, “We have arranged a control room and helplines for the affected passengers. We will share the profile of the passengers soon.”
While the CM of Assam ensured the safety of the 2 injured people from Assan, it was confirmed that the deceased was from West Bengal. Post the accident railway ministry announced compensation of 5 lakhs for the family of the deceased, 2.5 lakhs for those who suffered serious injuries and 50,000 for people with minor injuries.
Railway officials have further ensured that all the work is being done on a war footing.
