Bangladesh’s first female Prime Minister, Khaleeda Zia, passed away, leading to condolences from leaders across the world. Khaleeda, who was 79 years old, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka after battling a prolonged illness.
The interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh expressed sorrow over the leader’s demise, who has served the country as the prime minister three times. Yunus highlighted her role in establishing a democratic movement and affirmed that her ideals will be remembered forever. He also added that he was shocked and saddened by her demise.
Sheikh Hasina, who is in exile in India, also offered condolences as she remembered her role as the first female Prime Minister of the country. She also referred to her role in strengthening democratic structures in the country. She further wrote that her loss is irreplaceable for the country and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed his grief via a post on X, where he talked about her role in the court’s history and also expressed condolences towards her family and the people of the country, who are already amidst a crisis. The Pakistani Prime Minister also expressed deep sadness at the loss of the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The embassy of US Embassy in Dhaka had also sent deep respect for the leader’s demise and support to her family. The embassy’s spokesperson wrote that Zia played a pivotal role in the modern history of the country, and her legacy will always be remembered.
