S.S. Rajamouli’s much-awaited follow-up to the award-winning ‘RRR’ movie is finally here, and its first glimpse is already out, starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The first glimpse of “Varanasi” was launched at an event in Hyderabad. The project stars Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu along with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The project included Shruti Hasan’s “Sanchari” track, which was composed by M.M. Keeravani, who won the Oscar for “Natu Natu” from “RRR”.
Keeravani plays an important role in the movie by also providing the introduction music for the main character of ‘Kumbha’, played by Sukumaran. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays the character of Mandakini, while Mahesh Babu is seen in the character of Rudra.
The movie spans centuries, starting from the times of ancient India to modern day. It was played on an LED screen in Hyderabad, where thousands of fans waited patiently for the first glimpse of the project. A chapter in the movie is inspired by the “Ramayana” epic. S.S. Rajamouli, speaking about the project once again, expressed how he dreams of making a project on ‘Mahabharata’, and this one is inspired by ‘Ramayana’, which acts as a major pillar in it.
Talking about this project, he added that the shooting has gone for 60 days, and deep research has gone into every episode, as every episode has sub-episodes, which required rethinking and planning and hence had new challenges. He said that the present sequence is the most beautiful and memorable for himself and Mahesh Babu, emphasising that it will be more memorable and divine than one can imagine.
Sukumaran also spoke about the project and praised S.S. Rajamouli’s vision as exceptional. He praised the project as a grander and bigger one, taking Indian cinema to a global stage. Priyanka Chopra Jonas was also present at the event as she spoke about Rajamouli’s vision and thanked him for casting her as Mandakini.
The first appearances of Priyanka as Mandakini have taken the internet on a divine journey, as she exudes beauty and mesmerising charm in the latest role. The project has plans to release in the summer of 2027.
