IRS officer and former NCB zonal director, Sameer Wankhade, has filed a defamation suit against Red Chillies, Netflix and several others, claiming that the recently released directorial “Ba**ds of Bollywood” by Aryan Khan has obscene gestures regarding “Satyamev Jayate”.
The defamation suit was filed on Thursday, where Wankhade claimed to stop the distribution of the series and also asked for 2 crores to compensate for damages. As per his statement, the money will be donated to the Tata Cancer Hospital. He claimed that the show’s content demeaned the public’s trust in enforcing agencies and also damaged his reputation. He alleged that the show has been deliberately made in a way that it demeans his reputation, as the case between him and the show’s director, Aryan Khan, is ongoing in the Bombay High Court and the NDPS special court.
Apart from this, he also pointed to a sequence saying that it demeaned the recitation of Satyamev Jayate. Stating that this was a violation of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971, he called for action against the makers. Various other laws were targeted by Wankhade as he went on to say that the series also violated the provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The matter is being heard in the Delhi High Court, which questioned the IRS officer about the defamation case, where he reiterated the plea for permanent compensation over damages done to him and the institutions. The court, headed by Justice Purushaindra Kumar, asked Wankhade’s lawyer to justify how the case was related to the national capital. Wankhade’s lawyer speaking on his behalf has claimed that, as the series is being watched in Delhi, it leads to his defamation.
The Netflix show is getting a lot of attention from viewers, as it delves into the lives of Bollywood stars and their controversial side.
