The Indian movie Homebound has been selected as the official entry to the 2026 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category. N Chandra, the chairperson of the selection committee, said in a recent press conference that 26 movies in various languages have been selected to represent India at the Oscars.
Speaking at the conference in Kolkata, Chandra said that the choice was difficult, but the movies were selected based on how they have impacted the lives of people. Karan Johar, whose production house, Dharma, backed the movie, expressed that he was honoured by the recognition and also applauded the director, Neeraj Ghaywan, for his hard work in creating the masterpiece.
Neeraj Ghaywan also responded to the news and said that the movie shares the love for our home and our people, and he was happy that the movie was selected as India’s official entry. Describing the movie, he said that it truly represents the essence of our home and culture, and its representation on the global platform is beautiful beyond words. He also stated that it was a proud and humbling moment as he could represent his country on a global stage.
The main actors in the movie are Ishan Khattar, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The movie centres around two childhood friends from a small village as they chase a police job to find dignity and respect in life, and how they navigate their dreams and the harsh reality coming from a small village.
