After episodes of drama in the ongoing Miss Universe competition, Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch won the title after being publicly chastised by the host. Participants from 120 countries were a part of the competition, while those from the Ivory Coast, Thailand, the Philippines, and Venezuela went to the final round.
The Miss Universe crown is one of the “big fours” of the beauty pageant competitions. Before the finale was concluded, a lot of drama had happened as it was alleged that Miss Mexico was criticised for her intellect while judges were seen quitting the stage. Several contestants also left the stage during the event.
Earlier this month, Bosch was seen walking off the stage as the host of the show, Nawat Itsaragrisil, lambasted her in front of the crowd. A live stream video showed Nawat insulting Bosch over her apparent failure to promote content on social media. The clip went viral on the internet as it exposes the dark reality of the beauty pageant industry.
Before Nawat could call the security, Bosh was seen quitting the platform flanked by Miss Iraq. This prompted support from all the other queens who rose in support of Miss Mexico, while Nawat kept saying that the contestants wishing to continue may sit down. Later, while talking to reporters, Bosch said that the director’s behaviour was not only unprofessional but disrespectful.
Bosch was appreciated for taking a stand for herself, while everybody praised the other women who came in support of her. Nawat had also issued a public apology later. The drama did not, however, end here, as two judges decided to quit the pageant last week, calling it out for being rigged.
Another shocking incident occurred when Miss Britain Danielle Latimer fell on the stage during a costume rehearsal on Wednesday. Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry also fell from the stage during a rehearsal and was hospitalised later. After several shocking events and being in headlines for its entire run-time, the finale has been completed with Miss Mexico being crowned as this year’s winner.
