Police in Maharashtra’s Satara arrested a sub-inspector and a techie over an alleged rape case of a doctor. The 28-year-old doctor worked in the Phaltan subdistrict hospital.
According to a senior police officer, the techie was arrested on Saturday morning, while the sub-inspector surrendered at night, before the rural police in Phaltan. Tushar Doshi, the Superintendent of Satara police, also informed that the techie was remanded in four-day police custody till October 28. The brother of the accused techie has confessed that his brother did not approach or call the doctor, but it was the doctor who called him. He even accused the 28-year-old doctor of harassing his brother.
The matter has become more complicated as the state’s doctors’ association has asked the case to be transferred to the CID for an impartial investigation. The techie’s sister revealed that their mother treated the women as their daughter as she was staying at their place for a 4,000 per month rent. She further spoke to the police that the doctor proposed to her brother, who turned down the proposal.
Initial investigations by police reveal that there was evidence to show that the doctor was constantly pressurising the man and harassing him to marry her and maintain a physical relationship. The other suspect, who is a police officer, is also being investigated. It has been revealed that the man belongs to the same district as the doctor.
The deceased left a note on her palms where she mentioned the names of the sub-inspector and the techie to be responsible for her step. The letter revealed that she was subjected to mental and sexual harassment, forcing her to end her life. An FIR under sections 64 and 108 of the BNS (Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) was registered against the two suspects based on the above-mentioned letter and WhatsApp chats.
Tushar Doshi, the SP overseeing the case, has stated that investigations are ongoing. The fact that the woman has lost her life establishes that there is some definite truth in her allegations. He also confirmed there has been no prior complaint from the victim, and that the WhatsApp chats might reveal sexual contact, but the reality of the situation is tough to establish and will take time.
