The founder and director of Al Falah University, linked to the terror module involved in the Delhi car blast, had been sent into the custody of the Enforcement Directorate. Jawad Ahmed Siddique has been running the institution, which gained prominence in the 1990s as a major institution in the region.
The university is situated in Dhauj in Faridabad and is spread across 70 acres. It came to the limelight after three doctors linked to the institution were linked with the terror group involved in the blast. Two of the three doctors, Shaheen Saeed and Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, were held by the police, while the third, Umar-un-Nabi, was the person involved in the car blast and was identified as the one driving it on 10th November.
The authorities of the Al Falah University have stated that they have no connection with the case other than the professional employment of the accused, and have also agreed to cooperate with the investigating agencies. The institution is run through the Al Falah charitable trust, which is situated in Okhla, in Delhi. Siddique, who is the MD of the institution, is also one of the first trustees of the trust and is designated as its official trustee.
It started as the Al Falah School of Engineering and Technology in 1997 and gained University status in 2014. Later, it was further expanded into a medical college and hospital in 2019. The ED has called out Al Falah University for being involved in deceptive activities, which have made them hoard funds and attract students, thereby risking their future and trust.
As per the ED’s investigation, Al Falah University also made false claims of its NAAC status, and alleged that it was UGC recognised when it was not the case. It also revealed that a revenue of 415.10 crore was generated by the university between 2018 and 2025, which was a significant rise from 2018.
Simon Benjamin, the special prosecutor appearing for the ED, said that the fees and funds to be used for the university were allegedly used for personal use. Siddique is currently under a 13-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate.
