One of the most meticulously planned crimes in India was committed by Rohit Arya, who installed motion sensors and kept a keen eye on every moment, as he held 18 people as hostages in the Powai studio on Thursday in Mumbai. Out of the 18 people, 17 were children.
The entire episode ended after the police entered the Mahavir Classik building from one of its ends. During the rescue operations, the police opened fire, where Arya was injured and later died due to its fatality. The children were asked to go to the studio for an ‘audition’. A police officer involved in the rescue operations confirmed that the man had installed sensors and connected them to his phone to be aware of every moment in the location.
In a video released later, it is seen that Arya wanted to speak to certain individuals and said that he would harm himself and the hostages, and set the building on fire if his demands were not fulfilled.
The official further stated that he worked in the film industry and had some idea of how this equipment worked. The police are currently investigating where he purchased the equipment. An official also states that when Arya called the police from the Powai station, he asked them to be near a transparent plastic barrier where he could see them, and also insisted that the officers stay away from the studio, else he would end the negotiations.
Police confirmed that Arya had kept a watch on the front entry of the building but was not aware of the back entry, which the police used to enter the building. After finding out about the back entry, the police, with the help of the fire brigade and a Quick Response Team, decided to enter the premises. In a carefully planned execution, two personnel entered separately and engaged with him.
In an interaction, one of the officials confirmed that Arya was carrying an air gun, and there was a lot of commotion as the personnel suspected that he could harm the children and fired a shot, killing him.
