Counter operations in three Indian states have found a massive explosives and weaponry network running in the country. The network has been linked to banned terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
The large-scale operation began after a Jaish-e-Muhammad poster was seen in the Nowgam area of Srinagar on 19th October. Officials are calling this a “white collar terror ecosystem” as a clear trend of radicalisation among several educated people is visible. The investigations reached a breakthrough after the arrest of Dr Muzamil Shakeel, from Al Falah University in Faridabad’s Dhauj. He originally belonged to Pulwama, and further search busted arsenals from his rented room.
Among the items recovered were sophisticated bomb making components, arms and ammunition, buckets and 12 suitcases of explosives, remote controls, batteries, 20 timers, and several walkie-talkie devices. The situation became more critical on Monday when 2563 kg of explosive material was busted from Dehar colony. Along with the IED material, weapons including a Chinese pistol, a Beretta pistol, an AK-56, and a Krinkov rifle were found.
As per a senior police official cited by the TOI, the material busted shows a large-scale attack being planned. The authorities are also investigating whether the laboratory of Al Falah University was the one where RDX and other explosives were planned to be synthesised.
Satendra Kumar Gupta, the Faridabad Police Commissioner, has informed that a major terror outfit has been disrupted. Several people have been arrested by joint operations of Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir police, while even more arrests can be expected.
The latest development is where an AK-47 rifle has been found inside a Swift Dezire car belonging to a woman doctor of the same university. The rifle belonged to Dr Shakeel. The woman has not yet been arrested, as the police are still investigating her links with the network.
The spokesperson of Faridabad police, Yashpal, said that the police are in the process of identifying all the chains of the network. In the attempt, several searches and raids are being conducted in Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Faridabad, and Saharnpur.
