At a recent event, “Future Forward: Shaping Global Future with Indian Innovation”, Microsoft’s former CEO and founder Bill Gates expressed his joy at the trajectory of India. He said, “If India can stay on the path of the 2047 plan, that will be beneficial not just to India, it will be beneficial for the whole world.
He recalled his first visit to India in 1997 and being impressed by the workforce and talent that the country has. “I had already seen that the people we hired from India were amazing,” He also appreciated Indian infrastructure and investment in education which led to a sharp mindset and talented pool of workforce.
The global leader also pointed out that he was sure about the country’s capabilities to become a superpower but so early is what he did not expect. This is a big moment for the country as it is admired and recognized by a global figure.
He also emphasized the role of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in India, the growth of Innovation, and threats due to climate change and AI developments. On the topic of climate change, he said that it’s not likely that we would be able to stop the temperature rise below 1.5 or even 2 degrees but technological advancements will keep us afloat. Concerning AI he also referred to its role in making lives easier, but called it “scary”, saying, “If I had control, I would have probably liked to slow down the pace of its development.”
