Tata Motors made its commercial vehicle division into a separate entity and announced a major leadership change. The new wing, TML Commercial Vehicles Limited, will be effective from 1st October. Amongst other major changes, Shailesh Chandra became the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the new entity.
The announcement centres around the company’s focus on increasing the production of passenger vehicles and the electric vehicle sector. Shaliesh Chandra will head the Passenger Electric Mobility sector as the MD and CEO of Tata Motors for the next three years. Girish Wagh, who holds the position of executive director and key managerial personnel at Tata Motors, will be the new MD and CEO of TMLCV, the newly created wing under the Tata Motors group.
Another major leadership shuffle includes PB Balaji’s exit from the post of CFO and KMP of the group to lead Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc in the United Kingdom as the new CEO. He will also join as a member of the Tata Motors board under non-executive, non-independent directors.
Shailesh Chandra, whose appointment as the new MD and CEO of Tata Motors is the most important shuffle in the company. Chandra is currently the joint MD of Tata Motors’ electric mobility and passenger vehicle sector. He joined the group as production manager in 1995 and has served the company in various roles. As per a report of the Mint, he was promoted as deputy general manager in the vice-chairman’s office in 2012. In 2013, he moved from Tata Motors to Tata Sons to work in the chairman’s office, initially as general manager and then as assistant vice president.
He was again transferred to Tata Motors in 2016 as the head of corporate strategy and business transformation. He was further promoted as the president of the passenger and electric mobility sector, and played a crucial role in transforming the company’s goal towards electrification.
